  • Alpine Crazy Putt Hanmer Springs

Did you know that golf is played by more New Zealanders than any other sport? There are 390 golf clubs in New Zealand which places the country second in the world for the number of course per capita for the population of 4 million so getting on the tee is never a problem. Only Scotland with 543 courses for 5 million people has more golf courses per capita.

It is the highest club participation sport in the country, with around half a million Kiwis playing the game. A total of 105,000 New Zealanders are affiliated to golf clubs around the country and all up around 5 million rounds of golf are played annually.

Golf is so popular because it is one of the most affordable sports in the country. Kiwis can play at top quality club courses for as little as $25 and membership is also very reasonable across New Zealand.

So if you're a keen golfer, from anywhere in New Zealand or elsewhere in the world, you can enjoy a wonderful golfing experience right here in Hanmer Springs. And if you want to bring your family along as well, there are plenty of family friendly golf experiences - e.g. mini golf or the hot pools, for the whole family to enjoy.

We have lined up the region's golf experiences for you right here so you can plan your trip - and book your Hanmer Springs accommodation, all in one go.

Hanmer Springs Golf Course, 133 Argelins Road, Hanmer Springs

First up of course is the 18 hole Hanmer Springs Golf course - originally formed in 1911 as a nine hole course. The course has changed a lot in one hundred years, with alterations in 1923 starting the move toward the present 18 hole layout.

One of the great pleasures of a good round of golf is to be playing and walking between holes in stunning surroundings and Hanmer is one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand to enjoy fresh mountain air, snow capped peaks and the beauty of the green and lush Hanmer Basin. If you have tried and enjoyed Terrace Downs or Millbrook, you definitely need to add Hanmer to your list of golf course "must do's".

The course is a reasonably flat, easy walking course suitable for all ages and abilities. Hanmer Springs Golf Course is open every day of the week and you can hire golf clubs, trundlers and golf carts if required.
