Fun Bike Hire from the Park

Hire our Fun Bikes for the kids to use within the park. Single and double bikes are available. With any luck, it might buy you some relaxation time. Helmets are provided. Hire for $10 within the park.

Explore the Bike Trails Around Hanmer Springs

Find out about the easy rider and intermediate loops that start from Hanmer Forest Entrance. These rides vary in distance between 5 km and 6.5 km. Advanced and expert tracks are also available for the more experienced and adventurous riders.

20 Conical Hill Road

Grab a mountain bike and head for the hills! One of their mountain bike hire options allows you to explore the New Zealand High Country or the Hanmer Forest Park up close. Hanmer Springs is a great place for mountain biking, with excellent tracks available for all levels of expertise and fitness.

You can purchase a brochure for track information from reception or ask our friendly staff for information and advice.

​Easy Rider (Beginner)

This is a classic easy loop track, approximately 4km long and non-technical. Many tracks within the Heritage block can be linked to this.

 

Flax Gulley/Swoop/Majuba (Intermediate)

These three tracks may be linked and will take you around the back of Conical Hill.

Yankee Zephyr and Red Rock (Expert)

A challenging route on swooping switchbacks and rocky terrain - perfect for experts. Fantastic views of the Hurunui area if you dare take your eyes off the track.

​Jacks Jollies Loop

This 25km ride starts in Hanmer Springs Village, circles Mt Isobel, passes through 800 metres high Jacks Pass, follows the Clarence River, enters Jollies Pass, and returns to Hanmer Springs Village. It takes 2 - 4 hours. 

St James Cycle Trail

The St James Cycle Trail was the first of the great rides to open in 2010. It passes through the iconic St James Station, close to Hanmer Springs. This 64 km trail offers a mix of riding grades through stunning and diverse scenery, including soaring mountain peaks, crystal clear rivers, high-country lakes, alpine meadows, sub-alpine beech forest and expansive grassy river flats.

Hanmer Springs Mountain Bike Events

For those looking for a challenge, there are several events throughout the year. There is the annual Hammerhead ride, the Mt Isobel Challenge, the Krank Duathlon (a 4 and 8 hour event), Mountain Bike Orientation, the Rainbow Rage, and the Molesworth Muster.
